Getting close to a polish now. Tamiya's 2000-grit sanding cloth is one of the last stops before compound, taking an already-smooth surface to almost glassy. The flexible cloth backing moulds to curves and reaches into corners in a way stiff sandpaper can't, and it works wet or dry across plastic, light metals and wood.

Best for

  • The final smoothing pass before polishing compound
  • Curved panels and tight corners on model kits
  • Plastic, light metal and wood surfaces

How to use it

  • Work up through the grits rather than starting here on rough plastic
  • Use wet for a finer finish and less dust
  • Follow with a finer grit or compound for the final shine

This is the grit that makes the difference between shiny and mirror-shiny — the step most people skip and immediately regret.

The near-final polish prep. Step up from 1500 grit and finish with the ultra-fine 3000.
