As she realises that she can't reach Art, Carol begins wondering if he is indeed related to the disappearance of her research data. Unfortunately, the only place where she can think of looking for him is Shiba Town, an underground city where the more affluent live in shelter from the heat of a rainless London. While looking for him, she fends off meddling city AIs and meets an unexpected person from her grandmother's past.
