Ocean Blue is a concentrated, transparent acrylic ink from AK's the Inks range — built for glazing rather than base coating, so a little goes a long way. Drop it over a lighter blue undercoat and it deepens and saturates the colour instead of flattening it, which is exactly what you want for water, sky, banners or any surface that needs a bit more vibrancy and depth than a flat paint gives you. Being water-based, it thins easily and works whether it's loaded onto a brush for spot glazing or run through the airbrush for smoother, wider coverage.
Best for
- Glazing over blue basecoats to add depth and saturation
- Painting water effects, skies and vivid blue details on figures and scenery
- Shading washes where you want colour as well as shadow
- Building layered, luminous blues that flat paint alone can't manage
Used sparingly and built up in thin layers, it's one of the easiest ways to lift a base colour from flat to genuinely eye-catching.
It's an ink, not a miracle — you still need a solid base coat underneath for it to work. Grab a lighter blue acrylic to lay down first, plus a spare brush you don't mind staining, from the acrylic paint range.
