Due to the high protein content, the mix is perfect for providing protein for breeding birds, and as part as a varied every day diet.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePreparation\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo soak:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRinse the seeds well under running water \u003cbr\u003e\nIn any suitable container (keeping in mind that the seed will increase in volume as it soaks \/ sprouts), add plenty of water, at least three times the volume of seed.   \u003cbr\u003e\nUse warm (not hot) water to improve germination speed (if desired)  \u003cbr\u003e\nAdd GSE (grapefruit seed extract) or another water sanitiser (e.g. Birdcare Aviclens) to help prevent unwanted fungal or bacterial growth. \u003cbr\u003e\nAllow soaking for up to 24 hours at room temperature \u003cbr\u003e\nRinse with plenty of cold running water \u003cbr\u003e\nGive as is or mixed with egg food or fruits and vegetables  \u003cbr\u003e\nAlternatively, allow seed to germinate:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAutomatic sprouter (see instructions on link)\u003cbr\u003e\nTray method \u003cbr\u003e\nSpread in a thin layer on a flat tray, adding just enough water to dampen the seeds, but not to cover them.   \u003cbr\u003e\nAdd GSE (grapefruit seed extract) or another water sanitiser (e.g. Birdcare Aviclens) to help prevent unwanted fungal or bacterial growth. \u003cbr\u003e\nChange the water a few times a day and allow to germinate for 1-2 days. \u003cbr\u003e\nJar method \u003cbr\u003e\nPlace in a jar, and cover with muslin or other porous cloth, secured in place of a lid.   \u003cbr\u003e\nAdd a small amount of water \u003cbr\u003e\nAdd GSE (grapefruit seed extract) or another water sanitiser (e.g. Birdcare Aviclens) to help prevent unwanted fungal or bacterial growth. \u003cbr\u003e\nTurn the jar onto a 45-degree angle, with the opening facing downwards.   \u003cbr\u003e\nThe water should mostly drain from the jar but the atmosphere remains humid.   \u003cbr\u003e\nChange the water a few times a day and allow to germinate for 1-2 days. \u003cbr\u003e\nRinse with plenty of cold running water \u003cbr\u003e\nGive as is or mixed with egg food or fruits and vegetables  \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIdeally, you should only soak and\/or germinate enough to feed your birds for one day.
